Amarnath Yatra 2022: Amid tight security, another batch of only 1,147 pilgrims left for the darshan of Baba Barfani at the holy Amarnath cave at an altitude of 3,880 meters in south Kashmir on Wednesday morning. Officials said that a batch of 3,862 pilgrims had left on Monday and 2,189 on Tuesday to visit the holy cave. The 26th batch of pilgrims in 47 vehicles left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas on Wednesday morning amid tight security of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), officials said. He said that 476 pilgrims going to Baltal base camp were the first to leave in 18 vehicles.

So far more than 2.3 lakh people have visited

After this, a second convoy of 29 vehicles carrying 671 pilgrims left for the Pahalgam camp in Kashmir. Officials said there has been a sharp drop in the number of pilgrims in the last three days due to inclement weather. Officials said that so far more than 2.3 lakh pilgrims have visited the Shivalinga made of ice in the holy cave.

Yatra will end on August 11

The 43-day annual pilgrimage to see Baba Barfani began on June 30 via the traditional 48-km-long Nunwan route in Pahalgam in south Kashmir and the 14-km-long Baltal route in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal. So far 36 people have died due to various reasons during the journey. Apart from these, 15 pilgrims lost their lives in flash floods near the cave temple on July 8. The Amarnath Yatra will end on August 11 on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Recently, the yatra was stopped due to cloudburst near the Amarnath cave. After which the yatra resumed on July 11 from the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam. At least 16 people died in the floods in Baltal after a cloudburst near the cave.
