Asia Cup 2022, SL vs BAN: Sri Lanka cemented their place in the Super Four by defeating Bangladesh by two wickets in a thrilling encounter. This victory is special in many ways. Sri Lanka also made a new record by defeating Bangladesh. This is the biggest win in the UAE so far while chasing. It also gave Sri Lanka a chance to stay in the tournament.

Sri Lankan batsmen registered the biggest win

Sri Lanka’s victory in this match can be decorated on the head of Sri Lankan batsmen as well as Bangladesh bowler Ebadat Hossain. Sri Lanka had a target of 184 runs to win this match. The Lankan batsmen carried the scoreboard from the very beginning. Although two of his batsmen were dismissed in the powerplay itself, opener Kusal Mendis remained at the crease and took the news of Bangladeshi bowlers fiercely.

Kusal Mendis batted fiercely in this do or die match and hit a flurry of fours and sixes. He scored 60 runs in 37 balls at a strike rate of 162.16 which included three sixes with four fours. Mendis was dismissed as the fifth batsman for Sri Lanka. When he got out, Sri Lanka needed 53 runs off 33 balls to win.

Shanaka played the captaincy innings

After the dismissal of Mendis, the team’s batting was commanded by captain Dasun Shanaka himself. Chasing the target at full speed, he scored 45 runs in 33 balls, which included two sixes with three fours.

Sri Lanka won this ‘must win’ match by two wickets after achieving the target of 184 runs with four balls to spare. With this spectacular win, he made his place in the Super Four side from Group B where Afghanistan is already present.
