Asian Cup 2022: India’s star women’s table tennis player Manika Batra pulled off a major upset in the ITTF-ATTU Asian Cup tournament. The 27-year-old Manika was shown the way out after defeating world number seven Chinese player Chen Jingtong in the round of 16 on Thursday. For Manika, who is ranked No. 44 in the world, this is another big win in her career.

In the Round of 16 match on the first day of the ongoing tournament in Bangkok, Manika displayed the best game and defeated the third seeded player of China 4-3. Manika was getting full support from the crowd in Thailand and this Indian player also did not disappoint her. She defeated the Chinese player 8-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-6, 9-11, 8-11, 11-9 in a thrilling match and managed to make it to the quarterfinals. Manika will take on world No. 23 Chen Tzu Yu of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Earlier, world number 39 and top-ranked Indian G Sathiyan went down 3-4 to fifth seed Yukiya Ueda of Japan. Even though the Japanese player won 11-9, 11-8, 7-11, 9-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-6, Sathiyan did not give up after falling behind in the first two games and At one point the score was leveled at 2-2 after making a spectacular comeback. Sathiyan will get the prize money of $2250 despite losing in the first round.
