In 1994, more than 17,000 Bangladeshis were identified in Sahibganj district on the orders of the Union Home Ministry. The names of these Bangladeshis were removed from the voter list, but they could not be sent back.
Bangladeshi infiltration disturbed population balance
In 2018, during the tenure of the previous Raghubar Das government of Jharkhand, the Home Department had sent a proposal to the Center to implement NRC (National Register of Citizenship) in the entire state in view of the changed demographics of the area due to Bangladeshi infiltrators. No decision was taken by the Center on this. During the last budget session of the Legislative Assembly, Rajmahal MLA Anant Ojha raised the issue of Bangladeshi infiltration in the districts of Santhal Parganas through adjournment notice. He had said in his information that the population balance in Sahibganj districts has been disturbed due to Bangladeshi infiltration for the past few years.
Muslim population has increased rapidly in many districts

A report from Jharkhand was also sent to the Home Department on the increasing influence of Bangladeshis. It was mentioned in the report that Bangladeshis were coming to Jharkhand via Bihar and Bengal. It recommended setting up of a task force to identify illegal migrants. The figures also confirm that the Muslim population in the districts of Jharkhand, located close to Bangladesh, has increased at an unprecedented rate. For example, in Pakur, the Muslim population was 33.11 percent in 2001, which increased to 35.87 percent in 2011.

Bangladesh nationals being caught in Jharkhand

In a similar report sent to the Home Department, it has been told that illegal migrants identified in Sahibganj and Pakur of Santhal Pargana have got Voter ID, Aadhar card, even driving license made. In these areas, the hold of banned organizations like Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh and Popular Front of India and Ansar-ul-Bangla is increasing. There are many examples where people from Bangladesh married local women and settled here.

After the Ankita murder case of Dumka, many such cases are coming to the fore. There was no other option left in front of him. Similarly, the father of a young woman living near Dumka Gandhi Maidan said that 8 years ago his daughter left the family and went with a young man. Later it was revealed that he had cheated her by hiding her religion. The people of the family remained silent due to the localization.
‘These cases are the result of a well thought out conspiracy of love jihad’
Apart from Dangalpara, Sanidangal, Jaruwadih and Bandarjodi of Dumka, there are many such examples in Sahibganj, Pakur and Jamtara. BJP and Hindutva organizations allege that such cases are the result of a well-planned conspiracy of love jihad.
