IPL 2023: After the T20 World Cup is over, preparations for the Indian Premier League (IPL) have started in Indian cricket. Next year i.e. for the 15th season to be held in 2023, a mini auction will be held in Kochi on 23 December. For this, the governing body of the IPL has given the franchisees time till November 15 to make any changes (retention or release) in the team, which ends today. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have suffered a major setback.

Two-time champion KKR’s expensive fast bowler Pat Cummins has decided to withdraw from next year’s IPL. The Australian fast bowler informed about his decision by tweeting from his official Twitter account. In his post, Cummins has talked about his commitment to international cricket and playing for the country behind his withdrawal from IPL.

focus on international cricket

Told Cummins in his tweet that I have made a difficult decision to withdraw from IPL next year. He said that the international schedule is going to be very busy for the next 12 months with ODI and Test series, so I want to give myself a rest before the Ashes series and the ODI World Cup. Cummins also thanked KKR in his post and also expressed hope of returning soon.

Pat Cummins has been a part of KKR for 3 years

Significantly, Cummins is the captain of both Australia’s Test and ODI teams. After the retirement of Aaron Finch, he has also recently been given the command of the ODI team. Cummins was roped in by KKR in this year’s mega auction for a whopping amount of Rs 7.25 crore. After this, Cummins played 5 matches and took 7 wickets. Apart from this, he also scored a half-century with the bat. He also equaled KL Rahul’s record for the fastest fifty in the league by scoring a fifty in just 14 balls against Mumbai Indians.

KKR had looted 15.50 crores in 2020

Cummins was also a part of KKR in 2020 and 2021 and was the most expensive bowler of the team at that time. He was bought by KKR in 2020 for a whopping amount of 15.50 crores but before the mega auction this year, the franchise decided to release him and then re-join them for less money.

KKR has traded 3 players

Let us tell you that before Cummins, KKR’s wicket-keeper batsman and England cricketer Sam Billings has also decided to stay out of next year’s IPL, talking about focusing on Test cricket. However, KKR has also tried to compensate these players by trading three players in the meantime. The Kolkata team has added all-rounder Shardul Thakur from Delhi Capitals and fast bowler Lockie Ferguson and wicket-keeper batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz from Gujarat Titans.
