Haryana: Woman sarpanch arrested for booth grabbing
Nuh: A newly elected woman sarpanch has been arrested for her involvement in booth capturing in the Panchayat elections held in Nuh in Haryana on November 2. Giving information about this on Monday, the police said that the accused has been identified as Rashida. The accused was produced in a city court, from where he was sent to judicial custody. According to police, polling booth numbers 77 and 78 were allegedly attacked by a mob in Manauta village during polling on November 2.
A complaint was filed regarding the incident and re-polling was ordered. Police said the results were declared on November 4 and Rashida won. However, while he and his supporters were celebrating the victory, some purported videos were uploaded on social media in which their alleged involvement in booth-grabbing came to light. Nuh Superintendent of Police Varun Singla said, “After registering the FIR, we investigated and found the involvement of newly elected sarpanch Rashida and arrested her. We are also confirming the role of others and they will be apprehended soon.
