Lucknow: By-elections are going to be held on 3 seats in Uttar Pradesh on December 5. Out of these three seats, one is Lok Sabha while the remaining two are assembly seats. The by-election to Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat is being held after the death of Samajwadi Party founder and MP Mulayam Singh Yadav. Assembly by-election is going on in Rampur. This seat has fallen vacant after the conviction of Azam Khan in the inflammatory speech case. The membership of BJP MLA Vikram Singh from Khatauli has ended after being convicted in a case related to Muzaffarnagar riots.

Bypolls in Mainpuri after Mulayam’s death

The Mainpuri seat fell vacant after the death of Samajwadi Party founder and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav last month. The seat has become a prestige issue for Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav as the party’s candidates had to face defeat in Rampur and Azamgarh, which are considered party bastions earlier. At the same time, the Bharatiya Janata Party will try its best to strengthen its hold in the state by winning this big fort from Akhilesh.

There will also be an election battle in Rampur and Khatauli
The Rampur and Khatauli assembly seats, which fell vacant after SP leader Azam Khan and BJP’s Vikram Saini were disqualified, will also go to polls on December 5. While BJP’s effort will be to wave its flag in both the seats, the opposition parties would like to give a message of their return to the public by registering victory here. Counting of votes in all the three seats will be done on December 8.
