Commonwealth Games 2022 Updates : Today is the fourth day of the Commonwealth Games 2022. Today was a day of happiness and sadness. While India’s hopes of winning a medal from India’s Poonam Yadav suffered a setback, two Indian athletes Sreeshankar and Mohammad Anees Yahia have managed to make it to the finals. India had high hopes of a medal from Poonam Yadav, but it did not happen. Poonam Yadav did well in the qualifying round but today all three of her attempts were unsuccessful.

Poonam got second place in 98 kg weight category

India’s medal contender Poonam Yadav failed to clinch a medal in the women’s 76kg weightlifting event after failing in all three attempts in clean and jerk. Poonam had finished second in snatch with a lift of 98kg, but could not lift 116kg in her three attempts in clean and jerk. After failing in her first attempt in the snatch, Poonam had put herself in the medal race by lifting 95 kg in her second attempt and 98 kg in her third and final attempt. Canada’s Maya Lelor won the gold medal in this event by lifting a total of 228 kg to set a new Commonwealth Games record. He lifted 100 kg in snatch and 128 kg in clean and jerk. Nigeria’s Taiwo Liadi won the silver with a total lift of 216kg while Maxima Uepa of Nauru won the bronze.

Murali Sreeshankar and Anees did a great performance
On the other hand, Indian athletes Murali Sreeshankar and Mohammad Anees Yahiya qualified for the finals of the men’s long jump event by performing well in the qualifying rounds. Sri Shankar made it to the finals in his first attempt with a jump of 8.05m. The 23-year-old athlete from Kerala is one of the top medal contenders for India. He was the only athlete in his group to achieve the qualifying mark of eight metres. This Indian athlete after his brilliant effort reached his coach and the Indian audience in joy. Meanwhile, Yahia qualified for the finals by jumping 7.49m, 7.68m and 7.49m in his three attempts. Yahia improved his performance in his second attempt and finished third in his group.
