New Delhi: Congress leader Ajay Maken has left the post of in-charge of the party in Rajasthan. He has written a letter to party president Mallikarjun Kharge on November 8 saying that he is unable to fulfill the responsibility as in-charge of Rajasthan and the party should find another in-charge for here. In such a situation, it is believed that now Maken will not agree to work as in-charge of Rajasthan again. It is noteworthy that the Bharat Jodo Yatra of Congress will enter Rajasthan on December 5, at such a time, Maken’s resignation has become a topic of discussion in political circles.

What is the reason for leaving the post?

In the letter written by Ajay Maken to the party high command, on September 25, he has raised the issue of rebellion by the MLAs of the Gehlot faction and not taking action against them. He has also said that there are by-elections on December 4, so it is more important to appoint a new in-charge for Rajasthan.

What is the political meaning behind Maken’s resignation?

Maken’s resignation reflects the gravity of the unresolved powerplay between Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot in the state. Assembly elections are also to be held here in a year. It’s still early days for Mallikarjun Kharge as Congress president, but Maken’s decision could land him in trouble. This is because the issue is not about Maken resigning, but the issue because of which Maken has resigned.

Maken is angry with this

Maken is miffed that even after almost two months, no action has been taken by the party against three close aides of Chief Minister Gehlot, who were arrested for holding a parallel Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting in Jaipur on September 25. Tell notice was given. The real issue is also whether the Congress high command wants to implement a change of power in the state? But there is a lack of clarity on what the party leadership wants to do and when.

On September 29, as soon as Gehlot met Sonia Gandhi and apologized to her, AICC general secretary in-charge of the organization KC Venugopal announced that a decision would be taken on Rajasthan in a day or two. What will that verdict be? Gehlot’s rival Sachin Pilot is hopeful that there will be a change of power at the earliest. His camp claims that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have promised to make him the chief minister a year before the elections.

Big challenge for Kharge

The Congress leadership, especially the new president Kharge, will be under pressure to act against the chief minister. This pressure is also because the support of Gehlot’s majority MLAs will not allow him to take strict steps.

The party is yet to take any disciplinary action against Rajasthan Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shanti Dhariwal, party chief whip Mahesh Joshi and Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) chairman Dharmendra Rathore, despite the disciplinary committee issuing show-cause notices to them , this is a sign.

This is the first major challenge before Kharge. The timing is significant because this challenge has come to the fore exactly a fortnight after Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra entered Rajasthan. The party leadership would not like to create any disturbance at this stage which may derail the journey in the state. The big question is what will happen after the completion of the Rajasthan leg of the yatra.
