Congress Presidential Election: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Saturday said the Gandhi family has told him that there is no official candidate for the party president’s election and there will be no such candidate. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor began his campaign for the election of party president by visiting the Deekshabhoomi memorial in Maharashtra. Let us inform that he and senior party leader Mallikarjun Kharge are in the electoral fray in the race for the post of Congress President. If none of these nomination papers are withdrawn, then voting will be held.

‘Gandhi family wants a good election’

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said, “I met all the three members of the Gandhi family (Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka). He repeatedly told me that there is no official candidate for the election of party president and there will be no such candidate. They want a good and fair election. The Gandhi family will remain neutral and the party machinery neutral. They want a good election and want to strengthen the party. I have no doubts when the party president has assured me.” Tharoor was replying to a question whether Kharge is the Gandhi family’s favorite candidate.

Last date for withdrawal of nominations October 8
