Congress Protest: Congress today made a massive ruckus against inflation, unemployment and GST on many goods to surround the Modi government. During this protest, many leaders including former party president Rahul Gandhi and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were taken into custody. It is known that more than 200 Congress leaders have been detained during the mass protest. Over 200 Congress protesters, including 50 MPs from Lutyens’ Delhi, were detained on Friday, Delhi Police officials said.

Congress’s ‘Black Protest’ in black clothes

The leaders who participated in the demonstration of Congress were wearing black clothes. Congress MPs led by Rahul Gandhi took out a march from Parliament House to Rashtrapati Bhavan. However, the police stopped him midway and took him into custody. The Congress had announced a nationwide protest on Friday against inflation and unemployment. Under this, Congress Working Committee (CWC) members and senior party leaders had a plan to ‘gherao’ the prime minister’s residence. Many party leaders and workers had gathered at the Congress headquarters for this.

Priyanka was taken into custody sitting on the road
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also reached the Congress headquarters at ’24 Akbar Road’ to attend the gherao program of the Prime Minister’s residence, from where she was taken into custody. Dressed in a black salwar-kameez and dupatta, Priyanka crossed the police barricade in front of the party headquarters and reached the other side and sat on a dharna on the road. After some time the police took him into custody. During this, Congress workers raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government.

Rahul Gandhi and Adhir Ranjan also taken into custody
The Congress on Friday called for massive protests against inflation, unemployment and hike in GST on essential items. A senior police officer said that the protest started near the All India Congress Committee (AICC) office. Lok Sabha MPs Rahul Gandhi and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury are also among the detained leaders. During the protest, Delhi Police Deputy Commissioner Amrita Guguloth suffered a hand injury and was given first aid, the official said.
