CWG 2022: Indian women’s weightlifter Bindiyarani Devi gave India its fourth medal late last night. He won the silver medal in the 55 kg weightlifting category. Bindiyarani lifted a total of 202 kg. In this, he lifted 86 kg in the snatch round and 116 kg in the clean and jerk round with a Commonwealth record.
Commonwealth record set in clean and jerk
Bindiyarani lifted 81 kg in her first attempt in the snatch section. She did not stop here and after this she lifted 84 kg in the second attempt and then 86 kg in the third attempt. He then lifted 110 kg in his first attempt in the clean and jerk category. But she failed to lift 114 kg in her second attempt. At this time she had moved to the third place, but after that she successfully lifted the weight of 116 kg in the third attempt, making a Commonwealth Games record as well as winning the silver medal.
Lifted one kilo less than the player who won the gold
Adijat Adenike of Nigeria, who won the gold, lifted 203 kg which was one kg more than Bindiyarani. The Nigerian player finished first with a total of 203 kg (snatch: 92 kg, clean and jerk: 111 kg) and won the gold. At the same time, Bindiyarani finished second with 202 kg (snatch: 86 kg, clean and jerk: 116 kg). While Freire Morrow finished third with a total weight of 198 kg ((Snatch: 89 kg, Clean and Jerk: 109 kg).
This is Bindiyarani’s first Commonwealth Games medal. Earlier, he had won a gold medal at the 2019 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in Apia and a silver medal at the 2021 Tashkent Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships.

After winning the medal, Bindiyarani said that this is my first Commonwealth Games and I am very happy about winning silver as well as the record of the Games. She told that I used to play Taekwondo from 2008 to 2012 but then decided to do weightlifting. I had a length problem so I had to shift. Everyone said my height is ideal for weightlifting.

Before Bindiyarani, Mirabai Chanu won gold in 49kg category, while Sanket Sargar won silver in 55kg category and Gururaja Pujari won bronze in 61kg category among men.
