Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka repeatedly tried to strangle the victim during the alleged sexual assault. This has been said in media reports quoting police documents. The victim has alleged that on November 2, she was sexually assaulted four times at her Rose Bay home in Sydney. Gunathilaka had come here with the Sri Lankan team to play in the T20 World Cup. The victim woman has alleged in her complaint that Gunathilaka tried to strangle her thrice during the sexual assault. The Australian media report quoted police documents as saying, “The complainant tried to remove the hand of the accused by grabbing his wrist, but the accused had strangled his throat. The complainant was facing danger to his life.

England team out after losing

Significantly, the Sri Lankan team was knocked out of the tournament after losing to England. Gunathilaka played against Namibia in the first round and was dismissed without opening an account.
