Election Commission Voter List: In an effort to ensure greater participation of youth in elections, the Election Commission has decided that youth above the age of 17 can now apply in advance to register as a voter when they turn 18. Earlier, only those who were 18 years old used to register their names.

Now you will not have to wait for January 1

Until recently, people who turned 18 on or before January 1 of a year were eligible to enroll their names in the voter list. Those who turned 18 after January 1 had to wait for a full year to register as a voter. Following the change in the election law, people can register as a voter at the age of 18 on January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1.

Voter list will be updated every quarter

According to a statement of the Election Commission issued on Thursday, the commission under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioner Anoop Chandra Pandey has directed the election officials in the states to prepare a solution so that the youth Facilitate yourself to apply in advance. “From now on, the voter list will be updated every quarter and eligible youth can be registered in the next quarter of the year in which they turn 18,” the statement said.

Application can be submitted in advance

It said that for the present phase of annual reform of the voter list, 2023, any citizen who is turning 18 as on 1st April, 1st July and 1st October of 2023 shall also be eligible from the date of draft publication of the voter list. You can submit the application for registration as a voter in advance.

Preparation for linking voter list with aadhar

The Election Commission has started preparations on the matter of linking the voter list with the Aadhaar number. By running the campaign from August 1 to December 31, the Aadhaar number of every name included in the voter list will be collected and it will be linked with Aadhaar. The target is to complete the work by April 2023. Efforts will be made to reach all the voters and get their Aadhaar number. Once the names of the voters are linked with the Aadhaar number, there will be no duplicate names in the voter list. If a voter does not have an Aadhaar number, he/she will have to give an affidavit.
