IPL 2023: England wicket-keeper batsman Sam Billings, who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has decided to pull out of the T20 league. The 32-year-old right-handed batsman informed about his decision by tweeting from his official Twitter account on Monday.

Billings said he wants to focus on longer format cricket and will therefore not be a part of the league next year. He also thanked the franchise and expressed the hope of playing together in the future. Interestingly, this decision of Billings comes a day ahead of the date fixed for retention and release before the mini auction. Billings tweeted, “I have made a tough decision. I will not play in the next IPL. I want to focus on playing longer format cricket for Kent in the summer season in England.

He said that thanks to Kolkata Knight Riders for giving me a chance. I enjoyed every moment spent with him. I hope to play for you again in the future.

Let us tell you that Billings was added by the Kolkata team this year in the mega auction with his base price of Rs 2 crore. He also played eight matches for the team initially and scored 169 runs at an average of 24.14 and strike rate of 122.46.

Notably, he made his IPL debut in 2016. Since then he has played in five seasons till 2022. Looking at his IPL career, he has scored 503 runs in 30 matches at a strike rate of 129.64.
