Former Philippine President Fidel Ramos dies
Former Philippine President Fidel Ramos died at the age of 94 due to Corona virus. According to the report of The Manila Times, he died at Makati Medical Center due to complications from Corona.
The Philippine President’s press secretary, Rose Beatrix Cruz-Engels, confirmed Ramos’ death. He said that “It is with great sadness that President Fidel V Ramos has passed away. He has been a participant in the great changes in our country as both a military officer and a major in history. He also thanked his family, friends and colleagues.” With deep condolences.
Fidel Ramos was the 12th President of the Philippines
Ramos, the 12th President of the Republic of the Philippines from 1992 to 1998, was said to be the driving force behind renewed investor confidence in the country. It was during his time that the Philippines was recognized as an emerging “tiger economy”.
Ramos was a military man who rose from the ranks during the time of President Ferdinand E Marcos Sr. to become the chief of the Philippine Constabulary and the then Vice Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Ramos was hailed as a hero
He was hailed as a hero when he split from the administration of President Marcos during the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution. He then formed an alliance with the newly established government of then-President Corazon Aquino.
Before becoming president, Ramos also served as Chief-of-Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in Aquino’s administration.
