Chandigarh: Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Tuesday said that government schools in the state will be named after martyrs and freedom fighters. Bains said that the village panchayats and school management committees have been asked to pass a resolution to change the names of the schools.
The minister said in a statement that after this they should send the proposal through the principals to the state headquarters by the next month along with the biographies of the martyrs and freedom fighters. Bains said that this decision has been taken so that the coming generations get to know about the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and martyrs for the country.
This step has also been taken in Haryana
Earlier this initiative was started in Haryana also. The BJP-JJP coalition government in Haryana had taken a big step in honoring the martyrs. In which it was said that all the government schools in the state would be named after the martyrs. Apart from this, the names of PWD roads leading to the villages were also announced after the martyrs.
