Heavy rain in Kerala: Schools have been ordered to remain closed in some parts of the state on Monday due to heavy rains in Kerala. In view of the ‘Orange Alert’ issued till August 4, all departments have been directed to be prepared for any situation and fishermen should not go into the sea. The control room said that the water level of the rivers of the district is being monitored in view of the warning of heavy rains and a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority is also to be held during the day. The Central Meteorological Department on Sunday issued an ‘orange alert’ in various districts for the coming week, anticipating heavy rains in Kerala till August 4.

Instructions to people to be alert

In view of the ‘orange alert’ issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for the coming week, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday said people living in the hilly areas should remain alert and as a precautionary measure, it will start raining as soon as it starts raining. They should be sent to relief camps. An ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for August 1 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts of the state. According to the Meteorological Department, ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued in 12 districts for 8 August, 3 August 12 and 4 August also.

Let us tell you, in the ‘Red Alert’, heavy to very heavy rain i.e. more than 20 cm is recorded in 24 hours, while in the ‘Orange Alert’ there is a possibility of extremely heavy rain ranging from 6 cm to 20 cm. At the same time, there is a possibility of heavy rain in the ‘Yellow Alert’ i.e. 6 to 11 cm.
