Rishikesh, the city of Uttarakhand is known as Yognagri. The city situated on the banks of the holy river Ganges is very beautiful. Tourists from all over the world come here to visit. Every person who comes here must visit the Lakshman Jhula situated on the top of the Ganges river. However, this bridge, which is almost 100 years old, is still closed and will not be opened for movement from the point of view of security. In its place, the administration is preparing another bridge which is being made of glass.

The Public Works Department of the Government of Uttarakhand is constructing Bajrang Setu in Rishikesh here, which will be an alternative to the Lakshman Jhula bridge. An official of the Public Works Department said that the construction of this bridge will be completed in the month of July of the coming year 2023. He said that the foundation work for the new bridge is going on on both the banks of the Ganges. The towers that are being built on either side of Bajrang Setu will be made on the lines of the Kedarnath temple.

Four wheelers will be able to pass through the bridge

He told that the height of the tower will be about 27 meters. This bridge with a total length of 133 meters and a width of eight meters will be of three lanes. Small four wheelers will be able to pass between this bridge. In the middle of the bridge, there will be a double lane of two and a half meters for two-wheelers and four-wheelers. There will be a glass walkway on both sides of the bridge. Standing on it, tourists will be able to see the wonderful view of the flowing water of the Ganges from a height of 57 meters and will be able to walk on it. The thickness of this glass will be 65 mm, which is extremely strong. A total budget of Rs 68 crore has been approved for the bridge. The Lakshmanjhula bridge, which will become the alternative to the Bajrang bridge, was constructed between 1927 and 29 during the British rule.

Laxman Jhula bridge is closed since July 2019

On July 12, 2019, in the Safety Audit Report of the Public Works Department, considering this bridge as unsafe, the administration had stopped the movement on it. After this, preparations for building a new bridge started, the responsibility of which has been given to Lonvi. Movement on Laxmanjhula bridge is closed since July 2019. Due to no option of bridge, the market on both sides is also affected here. Soon the construction of Bajrang Setu will be completed here, which will become a center of attraction for tourists from across the country and abroad. This bridge will be developed as ‘State of Art’, which will be an innovative artwork in itself.
