Sri Nagar Football Stadium: The Jammu and Kashmir government has built an international level football stadium in Srinagar on the third anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370. The stadium is built on the rules of FIFA. The centuries-old Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar has been given a facelift and upgraded to host national and international football tournaments. 44 crores has been spent on the stadium with a capacity of more than 20000 people. Both day and night matches and tournaments can be held in the stadium. Kashmir has always been known for football as it has been the most favorite among Kashmiri youth. And the new international level stadium will give further impetus to the sports and the youth will get an international platform in their own city.
Jammu and Kashmir is becoming the hub of sports – Manoj Sinha
Regarding the stadium being built of international standard, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Manoj Sinha said that Bakshi Stadium has always been a dream destination for the youth who have made it so big in sports. The upgraded and renovated stadium is being handed over to the people who love sports. It was PM Modi who had given clear orders that this stadium should be made according to the standards of FIFA. I am happy that at a cost of 50 crores we are handing over the stadium to the youth of the valley. I am grateful to the Sports Council and all the people associated with it. I have hope and pride in the youth of Jammu and Kashmir for making India proud. Jammu and Kashmir is becoming the hub of sports.
Features of the Stadium
There are six blocks in the stadium which will have food court and many other facilities. The stadium has a special commentary box, VVIP box and dressing hall. The stadium will get a natural grass field and will have four floodlights. The Government of India is emphasizing on making Jammu and Kashmir a sports hub.
We will get international players from this stadium – Bilquis Coach
Regarding the stadium, football coach Bilquis said that the better the infrastructure, the better the talent. I hope that after the opening of this stadium, we will have international level football players. All arrangements have been made as per FIFA rules. I always hope that the passion for football among Kashmiris will take them to new heights.
Government of India is making every effort to promote sports in J&K since last three years, not only football, but many sports are being started in Kashmir and for this infrastructure is provided to youth. The government wants to keep the youth away from drugs and other evils.
