SRH Captains: Taking a big step ahead of IPL 2023, the Sunrisers Hyderabad team released their captain Kane Williamson. A total of 12 players were let go by the former champions ahead of the mini-auction to be held in December. Apart from Williamson (14 crores), Sunrisers also released wicket-keeper batsman Nicholas Pooran (10.75 crores) and Caribbean all-rounder Romario Shepherd (7.75 crores). With the departure of these three players, SRH gained more than Rs 30 crores.

Significantly, after releasing David Warner this year, SRH retained Kane Williamson with a whopping amount of 14 crores and also handed over the captaincy of the team to him. But under Williamson’s captaincy, the team’s performance was not much and it could win only 6 matches out of 14. New Zealand captain Williamson himself had a disappointing season as he managed only 216 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 93.50.

With this move of Sunrisers, his 8-year-old friendship with Williamson has also ended and with this a new crisis has arisen in front of this franchise. Sunrisers do not have a captain at the moment but they do not have a shortage of contenders for this either. Hyderabad has two such options from the current squad who can take command of the team. While looking at the purse of the franchise, it seems that they can bet on England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar:

Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, one of the oldest players in the team, can be made the franchise captain. Bhuvi, who joined the franchise in 2014, is also currently the vice-captain of the team and has also got the opportunity to handle the captaincy several times in the league. Bhuvi has been with Sunrisers for the last 8 years and during this time he has been a part of the team’s bowling attack.

Aiden Markram:

South African all-rounder Aiden Markram hasn’t been with the Sunrisers much but has almost cemented his place with his all-round performances. Markram was roped in by Hyderabad for Rs 2.6 crore in this year’s mega auction. Markram has played only two seasons in IPL but he also has a good captaincy experience. In 2014, under his captaincy, the South African Under-19 team won the World Cup.

Ben Stokes:

England all-rounder Ben Stokes has indicated to play in the IPL after playing a match-winning knock in the T20 World Cup. In such a situation, the attention of every franchisee is towards him and in view of this, it is certain that there will be a price war for him. It is expected that the franchises can spend a lot of money to get Ben Stokes with them and if this happens then the Sunrisers team can win. SRH currently have the highest cap of Rs 42.25 crore and will try their best to include Stokes. If the captain of the England Test team goes to the Sunrisers, then he can also be made the captain.

Kane Williamson:

The Sunrisers team has released Williamson, but it can buy this New Zealand star captain once again in the auction. In fact, the franchise had spent 14 crores for Williamson last season, which according to him was a bit high. In such a situation, SRH can hand over the captaincy by joining them again for less money.
