IPL 2023: The next season of the world’s biggest cricketing league IPL will be played in India next year. IPL 2023 auction is likely to be held on 16 December. All the teams in the IPL have to submit the list of players released to the BCCI before the deadline of November 15. PTI quoted IPL sources as saying that Delhi Capitals is ready to release five of its players.
DC can release these players
Delhi Capitals is set to release five players, including Shardul Thakur, Srikar Bharat and New Zealand’s Tim Seifert, ahead of the Indian Premier League’s November 15 deadline to retain players. Delhi team can also release Mandeep Singh and Andhra opener Ashwin Hebbar. Delhi Capitals bought Thakur in the 2021 auction for Rs 10 crore 75 lakh. He took five wickets in 14 matches in the 2022 season but conceded runs at a run rate of around 10 runs per over during this period. Thakur could only manage 120 runs with the bat at an average of 10.81 and strike rate of 137.93.
Delhi Capitals wanted Thakur to be swapped with another team but that did not materialise. Considering the hefty price tag of Thakur, the franchise is gearing up to release him before the auction in December. An IPL source told PTI, “Shardul is a top all-rounder but his cost is an issue. Hebbar, Mandeep, Seifert and Bharat can also be released.” New Zealand batsman Seifert will have the option of going to the auction. He could play only two matches in IPL this year for Delhi in which he scored 24 runs.
With skipper Rishabh Pant taking over the wicketkeeping duties, Bharat was tried in only a few matches in which he failed to make an impact with the bat. Punjab’s experienced batsman Mandeep played three matches for the team but could score only 18 runs. He did not get a chance to play many matches even in the 2021 season. Andhra batsman Hebbar did not get to play any match in 2022 and the decision to release him will not come as a surprise. Delhi’s team is preparing to retain Yash Dhul, the captain of the Under-19 World Cup winning team, who did not play a single match in the last season. Delhi had finished fifth in 10 squads in the 2022 season and failed to make the playoffs.
