IPL 2023: Australia’s left-arm fast bowler Jason Behrendorff has been traded by Mumbai Indians (MI) to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ahead of the 2023 IPL season. He was acquired by RCB in the 2022 IPL auction for a base price of Rs 75 lakh, but played in a single match throughout the competition.
Behrendorff arrived in Mumbai’s team
He will represent Mumbai Indians in the 2023 season of the IPL, for which he previously played in 2018 and 2019. Although he could not play in IPL 2018 due to a back injury, Behrendorff made a comeback to win the 2019 title. Seasoned for MI and took five wickets at an average of 33.00 at an economy rate of 8.68.
Behrendorff also played for CSK
Behrendorff was previously a member of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in place of fellow Australian Josh Hazlewood for the trophy in 2021. But he did not get a chance to play in the first part of the competition and when the second part of the tournament was held in the United Arab Emirates, Hazlewood returned to the team.
The 32-year-old Behrendorff was then picked by RCB as a backup for Hazlewood and England left-arm pacer David Willey for IPL 2022. He was instrumental in his BBL team Perth Scorchers winning the 2021/22 title, taking 16 wickets in 13 matches. The left-arm pacer has played 9 T20Is for Australia, in addition to 12 ODIs, taking seven wickets with a best bowling performance of 4/21.
Mumbai Indians is the only team, apart from four-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings, to successfully defend their title, which they did in 2020. The team finished a disappointing final in the ten-team event after missing the playoffs in 2021. In IPL 2022, they won just four out of 14 matches in the league stage.
