Jharkhand Cash Seizure: Three Jharkhand Congress MLAs were arrested on Sunday after a huge cache of cash was recovered from their vehicle in West Bengal’s Howrah district. A senior police officer gave this information. He said that on Saturday evening Rs 49 lakh cash was recovered from the vehicle of MLAs who were stopped on National Highway-16 in Ranihati of Panchla police station area. He said MLAs Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachhap and Naman Bixal Kongari and their driver failed to explain to the police why they were carrying such a huge amount of cash, following which they were arrested.

All three MLAs in CID custody for 10 days

The official said that the CID has taken over the investigation from the Howrah Rural Police. He said that a case has been registered against five people, including the MLAs, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act. The official said the MLAs were questioned throughout the night. According to the official, the five accused were produced before the court, which sent them to CID custody for 10 days.

Congress accuses BJP of toppling the government
Jharkhand Congress on Sunday alleged that to topple the ruling JMM-Congress-RJD coalition government in the state, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had lured party MLAs of Rs 10 crore and ministerial posts in the upcoming BJP government. At the same time, rejecting these allegations, BJP spokesperson Syed Zafar Islam said that Congress is blaming the BJP to hide the corruption of its MLAs. He alleged that from big to small leaders in Congress, everyone is involved in corruption. Referring to a recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe, Islam said officials related to Chief Minister Hemant Soren have been caught in a suspected corruption case and now three Congress MLAs have been arrested with huge cash.

Jharkhand minister lodged FIR, Bengal transferred
Earlier in the day, Congress Legislature Party leader and Jharkhand Parliamentary Affairs Minister Alamgir Alam said in a press conference in Ranchi that Congress’s Bermo MLA Jaimangal Singh had booked three Congress MLAs arrested in Howrah with huge cash of Rs 10 crore. An FIR has been lodged at Argora police station in connection with conspiring to try to bring down the state government by giving cash and luring a ministerial post in the next government. At the same time, an officer of Argora police station said that since the cash was recovered in West Bengal, he is transferring the case to the neighboring state. Senior BJP Jharkhand unit leader Babulal Marandi alleged that Congress has hatched a conspiracy to defame his party by filing a false police complaint to hide its sins.
