Jharkhand Lawyer Arrested: An advocate from Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi was arrested in Kolkata for his alleged involvement in a cheating case and Rs 50 lakh was seized from him. The advocate was arrested from a mall. A senior officer of the Detective Department of Kolkata Police gave this information.

Arrest from a mall located in Hare Street area

The lawyer, who was allegedly involved in the cheating case, was arrested on Sunday from a mall located in Hare Street area of ​​the central part of the city, the official said. He said that the accused has been identified as present professional advocate of Jharkhand High Court. According to another police officer, Kumar had filed a PIL in the Jharkhand High Court against a businessman from the city and was blackmailing him for money.

Had a demand of Rs 10 crore

“The lawyer first demanded Rs 10 crore from the businessman to withdraw the PIL, then reduced the demand to Rs 4 crore and finally agreed to settle the matter for Rs 1 crore,” the official said. He said, “It seems that the arrested person had come here to collect money. The seized amount is a part of his demand.” The accused lawyer was with his son at the time of arrest, the official said.

Petition was also filed against Hemant Soren in mining case

The lawyer has filed several PILs over the years, one of which pertains to alleged irregularities in a mining case against Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. A complaint has been lodged against the accused in various police stations of Jharkhand for allegedly blackmailing people and duping lakhs of rupees. Meanwhile, members of the Advocates Association of Jharkhand High Court boycotted work on Monday to protest the arrest.
