West Bengal News: After the arrest of suspended senior Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee in the school recruitment scam, the party is all set to make a major reshuffle in its organization as well as a major reshuffle in the West Bengal Council of Ministers. According to sources, the aim of the reshuffle will also be to change the image of the party which was affected by the probe into the school recruitment scam. Chatterjee, who had an influential role in both the Trinamool Congress and the state government, was removed from the post of minister following his arrest and suspended from the party. Chatterjee and his close aide Arpita Mukherjee were arrested by the ED last week in the case. About Rs 50 crore cash has been recovered from Arpita’s flat. Party chief and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had indicated on Thursday that there would be a reshuffle in the council of ministers soon. Banerjee had said, “Parth da has been relieved from the post of minister. For the time being, I will keep their ministries with me till there is a reshuffle in the council of ministers. Chatterjee’s arrest hastened the process.

Only when the time comes it will be known whether there will be a major reshuffle or not.

A senior Trinamool Congress leader said the idea is based on the Kamaraj plan of 1960, when several top Congress ministers resigned to work for the party. After the party returned to power for the third time in a row last year, the emphasis was on taking forward this plan of ours. “Now only time will tell whether there will be a major reshuffle or changes in only a few key ministries,” he said. Chatterjee was in charge of five key departments, including Industry, Commerce and Enterprise and Parliamentary Affairs. The senior leader also pointed out that the organizational change may reflect the call of ‘one person, one post’ by leaders close to the party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. There will also be major changes in the party organization. The policy of ‘one person, one post’ will be strictly followed. Some posts like general secretary, which Partha Chatterjee held, may be abolished. These changes will be implemented keeping in mind the next year’s Panchayat elections and 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Party does not support corruption in any way: Sukhendu Shekhar

Apart from being the general secretary, Chatterjee was also the party’s national vice-president, member of the National Working Committee and its disciplinary committee chairman and editor of the party’s newspaper ‘Jago Bangla’. It is noteworthy that earlier also four Trinamool Congress MPs and ministers were arrested for their alleged involvement in chit fund scams and Narada tapes case. At the same time, Trinamool Congress national spokesperson Sukhendu Shekhar said, “As soon as we came to know about this, we took action against them. It shows that the party does not support corruption in any way.” Noting that the image of the party has been affected by the scam, political analyst Maidul Islam said the reshuffle in the Council of Ministers and the party can prove to be helpful in changing the image of the Trinamool Congress.
