One person has died in the country due to monkeypox

The Kerala government on Monday confirmed that a 22-year-old man who died on July 30 was infected with monkeypox. In this way, this is the first death due to monkeypox in the country. State Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told the media that the samples sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune showed the infection and was the West African variant.

Vijayan said that the person who reached the state on July 22 was earlier found infected with monkeypox in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on July 19. State Health Minister Veena George said in a press release, “The person concerned was admitted to a private hospital in Thrissur on 27 July after his health deteriorated, but his relatives informed about the test report from UAE on 30 July. informed the hospital authorities.” George said that 20 people, including family members, friends, a helper and football players of the person concerned, came in contact with him in the high risk category.

  • Stay away from dead wild animals.
  • Avoid products made from African wild animals.
