Neeraj Chopra: Commonwealth Games 2022 is going to start from 28 July in Birmingham. Just two days before the start, the Indian contingent suffered a major setback when their straight gold hopes were set ablaze. India’s star javelin thrower (javelin thrower) Neeraj Chopra has been ruled out of the Commonwealth Games due to a groin injury. Sports fans across India were left disappointed as soon as this information came to light on Tuesday 26 July. Everyone expected another gold medal from him in these games. Neeraj also gave his reaction on this through a letter on social media.

Let us tell you that Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra was also the flag bearer of India at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Neeraj himself has expressed his disappointment at missing out on the opportunity to lead the country as the flag bearer at the inaugural function to be held on Thursday 28 July. The star javelin thrower had recently sustained an injury during his campaign to win a silver medal at the World Championships. Still, the 24-year-old superstar was all set to defend his title in Birmingham, but had to withdraw from the Commonwealth Games after an MRI scan revealed a minor injury.

Neeraj Chopra expressed disappointment

Neeraj Chopra said through a letter on his social media handle, “I regret that I will not be able to represent the country in Birmingham. I am disappointed to miss the opportunity to be the flag bearer of the Indian team especially at the opening ceremony. Right now my entire focus will be on my rehabilitation and I will try to get back on the field as soon as possible. Last time champion Chopra was considered a strong contender for the medal.

Neeraj Chopra also said in his letter, “I was feeling some discomfort due to the strain during the fourth throw of the World Championship and on examination of it here in the US yesterday, it was found to be a minor injury, which I have been advised rehabilitation for a few weeks. I would like to thank all of you for the love and respect I have received from all the countrymen in the last few days. I hope that all of you will continue to support all the players of our country in the Commonwealth Games by joining me in the same way. Jai Hind.”

It is noteworthy that the level of global competition in the Commonwealth Games is slightly lower. In such a situation, there was a possibility that Neeraj could put the gold medal in India’s bag. After his exit, the Indian team has suffered a major setback. Neeraj is also the champion of 2018 Commonwealth Games. He was about to come down to defend his gold medal this time but now it will not happen. In the last Commonwealth Games, Neeraj won the gold medal with a throw of 86.47m. He defeated Hamish Peacock (82.59m throw) of Australia.
