Guwahati: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday approved new road projects worth Rs 68 thousand crore in four northeastern states. Nitin had said this on the electric highway through solar energy

Earlier in September, Nitin Gadkari had said that the government was working on the development of electric highways through solar power. Addressing an event organized by industry body Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC), Gadkari had reiterated that the government wants to make the country’s public transport system electric. “The government is encouraging the development of solar and wind energy based charging systems for electric vehicles,” he said.

Gadkari said that the road ministry is also encouraging toll plazas to be run on solar energy. He said that a well developed infrastructure enhances economic activities, creates new companies and increases employment opportunities. “We are building 26 new expressways.”
