The historic Dadri fair, held every year in Ballia, UP, will be declared a government fair from next year. Uttar Pradesh Transport Minister Daya Shankar Singh gave this information. This year, which started with Ganga Snan on Kartik Purnima on November 8, this fair will end on November 30. Singh said that the government would declare it as a government fair from next year and Dadri fair authority would be formed to organize it. He told that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had recently sought a proposal from the district administration for the Maharishi Bhrigu Corridor during his Ballia tour. He said that from next year this fair will appear in a grander form.

History of Dadri Fair

The history of Dadri Mela of Ballia is very old and lakhs of devotees visit this fair every year. Witnessing the union of Ganga and Sarayu in Ballia, the Dadri fair begins every year on Kartik Purnima. In view of the possibility of outbreak of lumpy disease, the fair has been affected due to non-organisation of cattle fair this time, but the crowd of people thronging daily is keeping this fair alive. There are various beliefs related to the organization of Dadri fair.

It was here that Maharishi Bhrigu got freedom from the curse.

According to a belief, after kicking Lord Vishnu, Maharishi Bhrigu was freed from the curse in this area only. Historian Shivkumar Singh Kaushikeya, who has written more than half a dozen books on the Dadri fair, told PTI-Bhasha that it is also believed that Maharishi Bhrigu, through his disciple Dardar Muni, brought the Sarayu river from Ayodhya to Balia to become the Ganges on the day of Kartik Purnima. And the confluence of Saryu river was done. He told that on this very bank a yagya was performed under the leadership of Dardar Muni, which lasted for a month.

Mention of the fair in the book of Chinese traveler Fahyan

Principal of Town Inter College, Dr. Akhilesh Sinha said that the historicity of Dadri fair can be gauged from the fact that Chinese traveler Fahyan has mentioned this fair in one of his books. The animal market of Dadri fair is famous in the country and the world, but this time it has not been organized due to lumpy infection.
