Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary Statement: The National Commission for Women on Thursday issued a notice to Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury directing him to appear in person and give a written explanation for calling President Draupadi Murmu a ‘national wife’. The commission has also written a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi urging her to intervene in the matter and take appropriate action for making derogatory remarks about the President.

Congress president should apologize – BJP

The commission has fixed the hearing of Chaudhary’s case on Wednesday at 11.30 am next week. After the country’s first tribal woman president was called ‘national wife’, a war of words has started between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the opposition Congress at the Center. The BJP has also demanded an apology from Congress President Sonia Gandhi in this matter.

Women’s commissions of 12 states condemned the statement of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury

National Commission for Women Chairperson Rekha Sharma tweeted that the National Commission for Women and all State Commission for Women condemn the derogatory and anti-women remarks of Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury about the President of the country. Rekha said the 12 states whose women’s commissions have condemned the statement include Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Tripura.

The Chairperson of the Women’s Commission shared a joint statement on Twitter. It said that the National Commission for Women and all State Commission for Women strongly condemn the words of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury about the Honorable President. We call upon right minded people to condemn Adhir’s words in the strongest possible terms.
