Karnataka News: of Karnataka koppal Pilgrims sleeping in the premises of the famous Hulijemma temple at Hulgi village in the district were rammed by a tempo driver, killing one person. Four people including three women were injured in this incident. The tempo driver, identified as Srinivas of Yarangaligi village in Ballari district, has been arrested. His vehicle has also been confiscated. Caught on CCTV, Monday night’s horrific incident has gone viral on social media, raising concerns about the safety of thousands of devotees visiting the Hulijemma temple.

Injured being treated in hospital

The deceased has been identified as 75-year-old Tippanna, a resident of Nandihalli village near Karatagi town in Koppal district. Mallamma from Ballari, Hanumvva Jogathi from Kukunoor and Tukaram from Karatagi town were injured in the incident and all of them have been sent to the district hospital in Koppal for treatment.

According to the police, the accused, who was driving the tempo in an intoxicated state, could not control the vehicle and crushed the devotees sleeping on the road in front of a shop in the temple premises. The CCTV footage showed that the driver did not stop the vehicle even after the incident. Munirabad police probing the matter said that the driver had pressed the accelerator instead of brake while in a state of intoxication, which led to the accident.

Devotees and public condemned the temple management for not arranging shelter for the devotees coming from all the districts of North Karnataka and Maharashtra. Further investigation in this matter is on.
