INS Vikrant: Friday is the last day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kerala. Today, PM will induct the Indian-made aircraft carrier INS Vikrant into the Navy from Kochi. This aircraft carrier has been built under Make in India. It is the largest aircraft carrier in India till date. Before India, only five countries have built an aircraft carrier weighing more than 40 thousand tons. INS Vikrant weighs 45,000 tonnes.

Today is important day for Indian Navy

Friday is an important day for the Indian Navy. It will get its first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant and will also get freedom from the traces of the British era. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hand over INS Vikrant to the country. Built at the Cochin Shipyard in Kerala, the construction of this aircraft carrier has cost Rs 20,000 crore. The official induction of this ship will double the strength of the Navy.

Will get freedom from the mark of British era

At the same time, Modi will also unveil a new insignia of the Navy during the program. It will be a symbol of the rich Indian maritime heritage. The new design of the Navy consists of a white flag with two red stripes horizontally and vertically. Also, the national emblem of India (Ashoka Pillar) is inscribed at the meeting point of both the strips.

The Indian Navy came into existence only during the British period. The current flag of the Indian Navy has St George’s Cross with the tricolor in the upper left corner. The Navy service was renamed the Royal Indian Navy on 2 October 1934. With India becoming a republic on 26 January 1950, the Royal was decommissioned and renamed the Indian Navy. However, the colonial flag of Britain was not removed. Now PM Modi will give a new flag to the Indian Navy.

took 13 years to make

Construction started in February 2009. For the first time Vikrant was landed in water in August 2013. Basin trials of this aircraft carrier began in November 2020. After this, its sea trials were completed in July 2022. After the completion of the trial, it was handed over to the Navy by the Cochin Shipyard in July 2022. It cost 20 thousand crores to make it. Different parts of this ship are made in 18 states. 76% indigenous material has been used in this aircraft carrier. This ship can supply as much electricity as a township.

special grade steel used

More than 21 thousand tonnes of special grade steel has been used to make it. More than 2,600 km of electric cable has also been used in this. Along with this, more than 150 km of pipeline has also been put into use. Its height is 61.6 meters i.e. 15-storey building. Talking about the length, it is 262.5 meters long. It can comfortably accommodate 1600 crew members. 2300 compartments have been made in this ship. A fleet of MiG-29K fighters and Ka-31 helicopters will be deployed on this ship. This ship can operate 30 aircraft simultaneously. Its maximum speed is 28 knots.
