- Court reached on Bhagwant Mann’s appearance

Punjab News: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday appeared in a local court in connection with a rioting case registered against him two years ago. Mann was represented by former Advocate General Anmol Ratan Sidhu during his appearance in the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court. Responding to a question about his appearance in the court, Chief Minister Mann said his party (Aam Aadmi Party) had staged a protest against the then Congress government demanding reduction in power tariff.
Mann told reporters that water cannons were used during the protest and later a case was registered against us at that time. A case was registered against Mann and some other party leaders on charges of rioting, assault, preventing police from performing their duty during a protest organized by the party in January 2020. At that time Amarinder Singh was the Chief Minister of Punjab, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was in the opposition.
Police registered a case under these sections
In the case, the Chandigarh Police has filed a charge sheet under sections 147, 149, 332 and 353. Let us tell you that Punjab had increased the electricity rates for domestic consumers by 36 paise per unit with effect from January 1, 2020. At that time there was a Congress government in the state and Captain Amarinder Singh was the Chief Minister. Aam Aadmi Party MLAs, including other workers, demonstrated in Chandigarh against the Congress government. At the same time a case was registered against Mann and some other party leaders.
