Punjab Kings New Head Coach, Indian Premier League (IPL) team Punjab Kings finally got the replacement of their old head coach Anil Kumble. Punjab had on August 25 last month refused to renew the contract with former India spin great Kumble as coach. But the name of the new coach was not disclosed. The Kings management had said that they would soon announce the name of the new coach for the team. Now the curtain has come down on the name of the new head coach of Punjab Kings.

Trevor Bayliss to be new head coach of Punjab Kings

World Cup winning coach Trevor Bayliss will be seen on the field as head coach with Punjab Kings from the next season of IPL 2023 i.e. the league. The IPL team has made all the preparations to sign a deal with him. The 59-year-old from New South Wales has been regularly associated with the IPL. Recently he coached Sunrisers Hyderabad. Punjab’s hopes will be on getting the title from this Australian coach.

Bayliss is the world champion coach

Bayliss led England to their maiden World Cup title in 2019 and was also the chief of support staff of Kolkata Knight Riders when they won the IPL in 2012 and 2014.

Bayliss to replace Kumble in Punjab Kings

Bayliss will replace Kumble whose contract was not extended as the team failed to reach the playoffs during his three-year tenure. Punjab has reached the final in the history of IPL only in 2014 in which it lost to Kolkata Knight Riders. Kumble joined the Punjab team as head coach in 2020, after which Punjab’s team was consistently performing below average. In 2020-21, the team finished fifth in the 8-team tournament. In 2021 the Kings came in sixth in the 10-team tournament. Kumble was the fifth head coach of Punjab Kings in 5 seasons. Sanjay Bangar (2014-16), Virender Sehwag (2017), Brad Hodge (2018) and Mike Hesson (2019) were the head coaches of this IPL franchise.

In 2020, Kumble was the lone Indian head coach of an IPL team. Kings were the third IPL team Kumble worked with after retiring from cricket. Prior to this, he had played the role of mentor for Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians. He did all these things before becoming the head coach of the Indian team in 2016.
