Punjab News: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Saturday slammed Punjab Health Minister Chetan Singh Jauramajra for allegedly forcing the Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) to lie down on a dirty mattress during a hospital inspection. . The IMA has demanded an unconditional apology from the minister for his “misconduct” and his resignation. The IMA has also appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to take necessary action against him immediately. In a statement, the IMA said, “The IMA strongly condemns the outrageous action taken by the Health Minister of Punjab, who humiliated Dr. Raj Bahadur, Vice Chancellor of BFUHS on 29th July. The entire medical fraternity has been insulted.”

Bahadur resigned from the post

It is learned that Bahadur has resigned from the post and requested the Chief Minister of Punjab to relieve him from service. “There have been many such incidents of politicians humiliating and harassing the medical community. This causes pain to the doctors,” the IMA said. “IMA demands immediate unconditional apology and resignation from the Health Minister for his misbehavior. IMA appeals to the Chief Minister of Punjab to intervene immediately and take necessary action against the Minister,” the association said.

The incident happened on Friday, when Jauramajra was inspecting the Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital at Faridkot, which comes under BFUHS. In a video of the incident viral on the internet, surgeons are seen placing a hand on Bahadur’s shoulder and forcing him to lie down on the same mattress, pointing to the poor condition of a mattress kept in the skin department of Jauramajra Hospital. In the video, the Vice-Chancellor is seen explaining to the Health Minister that he is not responsible for these facilities, to which the Aam Aadmi Party leader said that everything is in your hands. However, after the incident, the Vice-Chancellor reportedly told Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann that he could not work in such an environment and he should be relieved from services.

The Vice-Chancellor said that he was feeling humiliated by such behavior on the part of the minister. On the question of resigning from the post of Vice-Chancellor, he said, “I have expressed my anguish to the Chief Minister and said that I feel humiliated.” Sources said the chief minister has taken a strong stand on the incident and has spoken to Jauramajra.
