PV Sindhu at CWG 2022: India’s star female badminton player PV Sindhu will once again be India’s flag bearer at the Commonwealth Games. Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, will lead the Indian contingent at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham on Wednesday. Earlier Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra was entrusted with this responsibility, but now Sindhu has been made the flag-bearer after she was ruled out of the Commonwealth Games due to injury.
“Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, has been made the flag-bearer of the Indian team for the opening ceremony,” said a statement issued by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
A total of 164 athletes will take part in the opening ceremony to be held on Thursday. Former world champion Sindhu is one of the strong contenders to win the women’s singles gold medal in Birmingham. They had won silver and bronze medals in the last two editions at Gold Coast and Glasgow respectively. Sindhu was also the flag bearer at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.
