Railway Accidents: Every year thousands of people lose their lives due to train accidents in the country. Responding to a question on these accidents, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told in the Lok Sabha that in the year 2014-15 i.e. ever since the Modi government was formed in the country, how many railway accidents have happened in the country. Talking on this, the Railway Minister said that there have been 25 such train accidents in which two trains collided. With this, 33 such incidents have been registered when it comes to incidents of fire related to railways.

According to the reply given by the Railway Minister in the Lok Sabha, since 2014-15 till now, there have been a total of 25 train collision accidents, in which one such incident has happened till July 26 in this financial year. According to the data, 33 incidents of fire in railways were reported during this period, out of which two incidents of fire have been reported till July 26 in this financial year. According to the reply given by Vaishnav, since 2014-15 till now, there have been a total of 396 train derailments, out of which 6 such incidents occurred in the current financial year till July 26. He said that from 2014-15 to 2022-23 till July 26, 133 cases of accidents at railway crossings have been reported, in which no such case has been registered so far in this financial year.

In recent years, due to improved functioning of railways, accidents have come down. However, despite this, major train accidents continue to happen in the country. Earlier, a major train derailment took place near Patna on 3 February 2019 when the Seemanchal Express derailed. At least 7 passengers were killed in that accident. Earlier in October 2018, New Farakka Express derailed in an accident in which 7 passengers lost their lives. At the same time, in January 2017, the Hirakhand Express had an accident near Vizianagaram in which 41 people were killed and 69 were injured.

Railway is taking big step for the safety of passengers

Indian Railways is always making efforts for the safety of the passengers. The railway management is very serious, especially regarding the security system. In view of the safety of the passengers, a big work is being done to increase the number of CCTV cameras. Railways has prepared a plan to install Video Surveillance System (VSS) at 756 special railway stations in the country. It also includes 15 railway stations of Madhya Pradesh. These railway stations come under West Central Railway, Jabalpur. The Ministry of Railways has approved installation of video surveillance system at major stations of Indian Railways under the Nirbhaya Fund.
