New Delhi: Retired Chief Justice of the High Court, Rituraj Awasthi has been appointed as the Chairman of the Law Commission on Monday. Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has given this information. He also informed that Justices KT Sankaran, Professor Anand Paliwal, Professor DP Verma, Professor Raka Arya and M Karunanidhi have been appointed as members of the commission.
Rijiju tweeted, “The Central Government has appointed retired Chief Justice of the High Court Justice Rituraj Awasthi as the Chairman of the Law Commission while Justice KT Sankaran, Professor Anand Paliwal, Professor DP Verma, Professor (Dr.) Raka Arya and Shri M. Karunanidhi as the Chairman of the Commission. Member has been appointed.
Who is Rituraj Awasthi
Justice Awasthi graduated in law from Lucknow University in the year 1986. He got registered as a lawyer on February 1, 1987. He has also served as Assistant Solicitor General of India in Lucknow. He was made an additional judge in the Allahabad High Court on April 13, 2009 and became a permanent judge on December 24, 2010.
Rituraj also came into the limelight when he received death threats for delivering the verdict in the Karnataka hijab case. The police had also arrested some people in this case.
