Sanjay Raut: Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, arrested by the ED in a case of alleged money laundering, on Thursday leveled several allegations against the central agency. Raut submitted before a special court that during his custody, the agency kept him in a room which neither had windows nor was there any way for ventilation. During the hearing of matters related to PMLA on Thursday, the Shiv Sena leader asked Special Court Judge M.G. Said this in front of Deshpande.
Raut did not get any relief from the court
The court, however, did not grant any relief to Raut and extended his ED custody till August 8. Raut was arrested on Sunday midnight by the ED in connection with money laundering in the redevelopment of Patra ‘chawl’ in Goregaon and financial transactions involving assets of his wife and alleged associates. The court had on Monday sent Raut to ED custody till August 4. At the end of his custody, the agency on Thursday produced him in a special court from where his custody was extended.
‘We had kept Raut in the AC room’
During the hearing, when the court asked the Shiv Sena leader whether he had any complaint against the ED, he replied that it was nothing special. However, he did say enough that the room in which he was kept had no windows and no way for air to move in and out. The court has sought an explanation from the ED for this. Special Public Prosecutor Hiten Venegaonkar, appearing for the central agency, said that Raut was kept in an AC room and hence there was no window.
ED assured the court
Raut later told the court that though there is a system of ‘AC’, he cannot use it due to his health condition. The ED then assured the court that they would be kept in a room with proper air movement. The ED had told the court on Monday that the Shiv Sena MP and his family had received over Rs 1 crore for alleged irregularities in the redevelopment project of a ‘chawl’ in Mumbai.
