Suspended Superintendent of Police (SP) Raj Mohan Ray was arrested on Thursday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from the kin of a man accused of raping and murdering a girl in Assam’s Darrang district. The CID gave this information in a statement. A release issued by the State Crime Investigation Department (CID) said that the SP was arrested after collecting evidence. It said that Ray had allegedly taken bribe from the relatives of the accused to dilute the case of murder of the girl.
He has been arrested in a fresh case registered by the Assam CID under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the statement said. It said that the CID investigators, after analyzing bank account details, call detail records and tower location, found that Ray had received Rs 2 lakh from the family of the accused.
Victim was 13 years old
Significantly, in June, a 13-year-old domestic help was allegedly raped and murdered and an FIR was registered at Dhula police station. Following the incident, the girl’s family had alleged that the police had been negligent in collecting evidence. After this, Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma had met the girl’s family on 12 August.
