Shikhar Dhawan: India made a clean sweep of West Indies. In the third and last ODI of the series, Team India achieved this feat by defeating the Windies by 119 runs. After the match, all the players and coaching staff of the team gathered in the dressing room where head coach Rahul Dravid spoke in front of everyone.

BCCI shared a video in which Dravid said, “We came here with a young team. Many players who played in England were not here. It was a tough fight in the first two games, we talked and we came out victorious in those tough matches despite tremendous pressure.

After the speech of Rahul Dravid, Shikhar Dhawan took over the command in the dressing room. He said, “Well done boys. The batting unit and the bowling unit, you are all wonderful. We talked before the start of the series that we are a process driven team. You are all young. You all have already started taking big steps. I am sure you all will go a long way.”

But the highlight of the whole incident was yet to come, which came when Dhawan said after his speech. He called all the players close to him and said to everyone, “I want everyone to stand up and stand close to each other. I would say who are we? And then we will shout and say champions.”

Then it happened, Dhawan said “Who are we?” Everyone’s answer was, “Champions”.

Team India’s amazing performance in the third ODI

In the third ODI, captain Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and elected to bat. This match was more important for the hosts than India, who had already won the series. Dhawan and Shubman Gill shared a 113-run partnership for the first wicket. Dhawan was dismissed after scoring a half-century but Gill’s journey continued.

There was a rain interruption and the match was reduced to 40 overs. When the match resumed, Shreyas Iyer and Gill started attacking the Windies vigorously. Once again the rain disturbed and India’s innings was declared over. Gill, standing on 98 not out, could not get a chance to score his maiden ODI century.

Windies were given a target of 257 in 35 overs with the DLS method. The Caribbean batsmen were shattered under pressure. Brandon King and captain Nicholas Pooran scored 42 runs for the hosts. Seven players of the Caribbean team could not even reach two points. As a result, the entire team was bowled out for 137 runs in 26 overs.

India won the match by 119 runs to sweep the Windies 3-0 in the series.
