Split Captaincy in Team India: Split captaincy, that is, different captains in each format of the game, this demand has been made for the Indian cricket team on a few occasions before, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sidelined them every time. Now the biggest task has been placed before the new selection committee. After the dismissal of the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee, the new committee will first have to select different captains of Team India for each format.

The time has come for a separate captain for each format.

After the disappointing campaign of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup, many veterans are demanding split captaincy. Teams like Australia and England have been appointing different captains for red and white ball cricket for a long time. Now BCCI is also seen moving in this direction. BCCI has started the process of taking applications for the new selection committee, the last date of which is 28 November.

No change in the qualification process of the selection committee

There has been no change in the qualification process to join the selection committee. According to the announcement of BCCI, to become a member of the selection committee, one should have experience of playing at least 7 Test matches or 30 First Class matches, or 100 One Day Internationals and 20 First Class matches. It is also mandatory for that person to retire from cricket at least 5 years before. If a person has been a member of any cricket committee for 5 years, then he cannot become a member of the selection committee.

According to a PTI report, the first assignment before the next selection committee will be to pick different captains for each format for Team India. Looking at the current situation, this could mean that Rohit Sharma may have to give up the captaincy in the T20 format. He can remain the captain of Team India for Tests and ODIs, but after the failure of T20 World Cup 2022, it does not seem appropriate for him to continue as the captain of this format. In such a situation, the captaincy of the T20 team in the hands of Pandya is considered almost certain. If Hardik becomes the captain, then his appointment can be till 2024 T20 World Cup.
