- India will clash with Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2022 on 23 October
- Mohammed Shami did not play from the last T20 World Cup, even T20I
- Dinesh Karthik may have the last World Cup, if he gets a place in the team
T20 World Cup 2022: The 2022 T20 World Cup will be played in Australia in October-November this year. The Indian team is constantly doing many experiments to prepare its last-15. Meanwhile, there are some players whose T20 career is now hanging on the sword and their T20 career is on the verge of ending in a way. Today we will discuss about those players, out of which two are completely out of the T20 team. The other two are part of India’s current T20 team.
One of the four players that we will talk about is a name that appears only in India’s T20 team. He has not played any ODI match for the last three years. At the same time, there is a name that is currently only part of the ODI team. Apart from this, a player is an important part of India’s ODI and Test team. At the same time, a veteran spinner is an important part of the Indian Test team. Let us now know the names of all those players one by one:-
Shikhar Dhawan is currently out of India’s T20 and Test team. He is seen playing only in ODIs. Even for the upcoming T20 World Cup, it can be considered impossible for him to come in the team. Recently, head coach Rahul Dravid also said in a statement that he is not a part of his T20 plan. In such a situation, it would not be wrong to say that Dhawan can say goodbye to T20 International after the T20 World Cup.
Although Dhawan has been performing consistently in the IPL, but due to the army of youngsters, it has become very difficult to replace him in Team India. Dhawan has played 68 T20 Internationals for India, in which he has 1759 runs in his name with 11 half-centuries. He averages 27.92 and his highest score in this format is 92 runs. Apart from this, Dhawan has also scored 6243 runs in 206 matches in IPL. He last played a T20 International against Sri Lanka in 2021 where he himself was also the captain.
Mohammed Shami also last played T20 International for India in 2021 last year. He was seen in the last T20 International match against Namibia in the last World Cup. His performance that season was also not special and he was criticized a lot. Since then he has been a major part of India’s ODI and Test team but he does not make it to T20. His playing in the upcoming T20 World Cup also looks difficult in front of Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar and Harshal Patel.
However, his performance in IPL has also been excellent. Be it the 2022 season or the previous seasons. Shami has played a total of 17 T20 matches for India in which he has been able to take only 18 wickets. He has 99 wickets in his name in 93 matches of IPL. In such a situation, due to the focus on ODIs and Tests and not being a part of the team continuously in this format, he can also retire from the shortest format of cricket to manage the workload after the T20 World Cup.

Ravichandran Ashwin is a name that has no dearth of talent. He was also a part of the team in the last T20 World but it is not going to be easy for him to make a place in the upcoming T20 World to be held in Australia. Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja are now standing in front of them as a big challenge. In the West Indies series, Axar Patel has also strengthened his claim by winning the second ODI. Chahal is not only a specialist leg spinner and Jadeja and Axar also get a place in the team for their batting. In this situation, it has become a big challenge for Ashwin to make a place in this team.
Although he will be seen in the current T20 team against West Indies and probably captain Rohit Sharma will give him a chance in the playing 11 as well. But his existence in this team is not visible for long. At the same time, after a long time, he played against South Africa earlier this year and then he did not get a place in the team. So after the T20 World Cup, Ashwin can announce his retirement from T20 and ODI to focus only on red ball cricket. Ashwin has taken 61 wickets in 51 T20Is and 151 wickets in 113 ODIs for India. In IPL also he has taken 157 wickets in 1984 matches.

Dinesh Karthik is one such name of the Indian cricket team who was also in India’s first T20 International team of 2006 and is also a part of the current 2022 T20 team. Karthik’s finishing ability has stunned the whole world and this is the reason why he is still seen in India’s blue jersey. But now it is probably expected that if he joins the team for the T20 World Cup 2022, then he can say goodbye to international cricket after that.
He is also not in the plans for the other two formats at the moment. He last played ODI match in the 2019 ODI World Cup. So since 2018 he hasn’t even played any Test match. He has played 42 T20 Internationals, 26 Tests and 94 ODIs for India so far. He has 1025 Test runs, 1752 ODI runs and 525 T20 International runs to his name. For the last few series, the team has been grooming him as a finisher. Now it remains to be seen whether he can make it to the World Cup team by doing wonders in the West Indies series and the upcoming Asia Cup.
