T20 World Cup 2022: The performance of former champion team Australia in the T20 World Cup 2022 has surprised everyone. The team that won the last World Cup could not play till the semi-finals this year. Almost all the players in the team were out of form. Australia had to face each in their very first match at the hands of arch-rivals New Zealand. All the fans and veterans are disappointed with the performance of the team.
Former Australia captain Michael Clarke slammed Aaron Finch’s team for playing poor cricket during the T20 World Cup at home, resulting in their exit from the Super 12 stage of the tournament. Australia had a poor start in the World Cup when they lost to New Zealand by 89 runs in Sydney. That defeat turned Australia’s performance down. Despite victories against Ireland and Afghanistan, they were not much confident in their performance, as a result of which they ended Group 1 in third place with a negative run rate.

Clarke said on the Big Sports Breakfast radio show, “I think Australians, in general, were playing under the most pressure and we’re not afraid to lose. Still, we picked a strong team in this World Cup squad, which is just now. Worst cricket I’ve played till date.” But Clarke’s biggest disappointment was that he didn’t beat teams like Ireland and Afghanistan by huge margins. They had won against Ireland by 35 runs and against Afghanistan by just 4 runs.
Clarke also expressed anger at the selections made by Australia throughout the tournament, including the surprise decision to drop left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc from the decider against Afghanistan.
