Sabarimala Temple

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday alleged that a guideline on the entry of devotees in a booklet distributed to police personnel deployed at the Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala was with malicious intent. At the same time, the ruling LDF said that if there is any lapse then the instruction will be withdrawn. A booklet distributed by the state home department to the police personnel posted at the temple states that as per the High Court’s September 2018 judgement, all devotees are allowed to enter the temple. When the political controversy started in this matter, the Devaswom minister of the state K.K. Radhakrishnan clarified that the book had already been printed and the guideline had entered it by mistake. He told reporters at Sabarimala, “The government has no malicious intent in this matter. We have done everything with good intentions. If there is any lapse in the guidelines, they will be directed to withdraw them.

Such decisions are not good for the government

BJP state president K. Surendran, without directly referring to the issue of women’s entry into Sabarimala and the protests over it, said if there was any specific intent behind the ‘entry for all devotees’ guideline in the Left government’s handbook, it would be better to stop it immediately. “If this decision has been taken with an aim to make Sabarimala a war zone once again and target the faith of the people, then we have not forgotten anything of the past,” he said. The government has gone back on those things before. If you are taking such steps again, it will have far-reaching consequences. That’s all we can say.” The BJP leader also said it would be better for the government to roll back such moves. The Lord Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala opened on Wednesday on the eve of the annual Mandalam Makaravilakku pilgrimage.
