Indian Navy New Flag: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday commissioned India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. With this, India has joined the list of select countries that have domestic capabilities to build such large warships. Modi also unveiled a new Navy flag inspired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He said that today the country has lifted a burden of slavery from its chest. Prime Minister Modi inducted the indigenously built ship into the Navy’s fleet at the Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) here.

Vikrant can light 5,000 houses

The ship is named after a former Navy ship Vikrant, which played a key role in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. He also talked about some of the features of the aircraft carrier. He described it as a floating airfield, a floating city. He said that the amount of electricity generated at INS Vikrant can light 5,000 houses. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Navy Chief Admiral R. Many dignitaries including Hari Kumar attended.
