Tobacco Pictorial Warning: Millions of people die every year in the country due to cigarettes, tobacco and gutka etc. The government makes all efforts to stop its use, but still its consumption is increasing every year. The government imposes heavy taxes on its production and purchase, but still there is no effect. Its consumption is increasing.

You will remember that till a few years ago there was no warning printed on the packets of cigarettes, tobacco. Then the government issued orders in this regard and warnings started appearing with a photo. Now the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has notified a new form of health warnings printed on the packets of all types of tobacco products. For this, the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Packaging and Labelling) Rules, 2008 have been amended vide GSR 592(E) dated 21st July, 2022. The amendment is “Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Packaging and Labelling) Third Amendment Rules, 2022”. The amended rules will be effective from December 1, 2022.

Government released two types of photos

The Ministry of Health has released two types of photos. Out of which one photo will be from 1st December 2022 and the same photo will be printed for the next 12 months. After which the second photo issued by the government will start printing. The government has said that all tobacco products, which are manufactured or imported or packaged on or after December 1, 2022, shall have a health warning titled ‘Tobacco i.e. painful death’ with photo-1. All products manufactured or imported or packaged on or after December 1, 2023, shall be accompanied by a photo-2 with a health warning titled “Tobacco consumption i.e. premature death”.

The Ministry of Health has issued instructions saying, “Whoever is directly or indirectly involved in the manufacture, production, supply, import or distribution of cigarettes or other tobacco products, he shall ensure that all packets of tobacco products but the specified health warning has been given in exactly the prescribed manner.”

Failure to comply with the notification may result in punishment

Along with this, the government has stated that the violation of the above provisions is a punishable offense for which imprisonment or fine under section 20 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003. provision of. Whereas notification GSR 458(E) issued on July 21, 2020, will continue till November 30, 2022.
