Uttar Pradesh News: Timely payment has always been a big problem for sugarcane farmers, the non-payment of their crops for years after years also affects their lives. But now this will not happen, because the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh is soon going to make such a system, through which sugarcane farmers will get the payment of their crop in just 10 days. In fact, Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Development Minister Laxmi Narayan Choudhary has said that the state government is developing such a mechanism so that the cane payment to the farmers can be made within 10 days instead of 14 days.

Payment of sugarcane farmers accelerated

The sugarcane development minister said the government has expedited the process of payment of sugarcane farmers and the Yogi Adityanath-led government, formed for the second time, has paid Rs 14,500 crore in 100 days against the target of Rs 8,000 crore. Chaudhary claimed that under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, sugarcane has become the main crop for farmers in the state. He informed that this year, sugar mills have bought sugarcane worth Rs 35,000 crore and so far Rs 29,000 crore has been paid.

Wheat and paddy farmers also got better payment

Sugarcane growers, especially from western Uttar Pradesh, took an active part in the recently concluded state assembly elections amid protests by farmers against the three agricultural laws and also made the issue of sugarcane farmers an election issue. Top BJP leaders and Adityanath had also rubbished the opposition’s charge of neglecting farmers. Other leaders, including Yogi, had claimed with the figures that the state government had paid many times more to sugarcane farmers than the governments before 2017. The minister said that in the last five years under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath ji, Rs 40,000 crore was paid to the farmers after wheat procurement, while Rs 60,000 crore was paid to the farmers for the purchase of paddy from them.

Research underway for new varieties of sugarcane

The minister said that during the previous rule of Adityanath, Rs 1.80 lakh crore was paid to sugarcane farmers and money was sent to their accounts. Choudhary claimed that the area under sugarcane production in the state has increased by six per cent and the sugar mills that were closed by the previous governments have been restarted and their capacity has increased. “In two years’ time, we want to create such a situation that the payment of sugarcane to the farmer is done within 10 days as against the existing provision of 14 days,” said the minister. Research is on and in the next one or two years we will develop good quality seeds which will increase the production.
