Virat Kohli: The Indian Cricket Board on Saturday announced the squad for the three-match ODI series to be played on Zimbabwe tour. Shikhar Dhawan was given the captaincy of the team once again for this series to be held from 18 to 22 August due to the rest given to Rohit Sharma. At the same time, the name of Virat Kohli was missing from the team selected for the second consecutive tour.

Kohli’s name missing from Zimbabwe tour team

However, from fans to cricket pundits, there were speculations about Kohli being in the team for this tour. The 33-year-old former Indian captain played a total of six innings in every format of cricket from IPL 2022 till now and could not score more than 20 runs in any innings. In such a situation, it was believed that India’s star batsman battling poor form would be a part of the team on the Zimbabwe tour, but he stayed away from the team and the market of speculation got heated once again. Amidst all this, according to news agency PTI, Kohli can be seen in the field with the team in next month’s Asia Cup.

Speaking to PTI, an exclusive BCCI source said, “Virat had spoken to the selectors that he would be available for the team continuously from the Asia Cup. All the players of the team will not get any chance of rest after the Asia Cup till the T20 World Cup is over, they will have only two weeks for rest after the Windies tour.

Some old faces will be seen on Zimbabwe tour

Talking about the players returning to the team going for the ODI series against Zimbabwe, then some old faces will be seen. Fast bowler Deepak Chahar is back. He was away from the field for the last five months due to injury. Keeping in mind the T20 World Cup to be held later this year, the selectors decided to include him in the team as soon as he became fit. Apart from Chahar, Washington Sundar, who is away from the team due to injury, has also returned to the team. Sundar had made a great start to his English county career for Lancashire but had to halt his journey midway due to injury.
